MARINERS IN THE COMMUNITY
CANTERBURY MARINERS COMMUNITY FUND
Canterbury Mariners Walking Football Club provides grant funding
for local charities, sports clubs and other good causes
Canterbury Mariners Walking Football Club is delighted to announce the setting up of a Community Fund to provide a monthly single grant of £500 that is available, on application, for use by local charities, sports clubs, community groups and other good causes operating in Canterbury in the post code areas of CT1, CT2, CT3 and CT4.
The grant scheme is to be administered by officers of Mariners in the Community, a part of Canterbury Mariners Walking Football Club.
Each charity, sports club or community group making an application must provide full details of their organisation, the community benefit they provide and explain how the £500 will be used, if they are successful.
All bona fide applications will be assessed by our Mariners in the Community officers who will decide which charity, sports club or community group will benefit from the £500 grant which will be paid in the month after the application is made.
Our sponsors, Marine Travel of Canterbury, have provided the funds to cover the payment of twelve grant awards of £500 in 2023.
Applications for the award of the £500 grant are to be made by email to secretary@canterburymariners.football by the 25th day of each month by the completion of the application form and provision of supporting paperwork.
The first applications are to be received by January 25, 2023.
Marine Travel Managing Director and Canterbury Mariners Committee member, Dave Thompson said:
“I am absolutely delighted to be involved in this fund and look forward to hearing from those in the Canterbury community who need a little help to move forward with their projects”.
OTHER CHARITIES SUPPORTED BY CANTERBURY MARINERS
4-Wheels for ukraine
In 2022, Canterbury Mariners Walking Football Club was involved in supporting the Ambulances for Ukraine Appeal which bought four ambulances to help the emergency services in that country. Those vehicles are now in Ukraine and bear the badge of Canterbury Mariners Walking Football Club on the side.
We are now supporting 4-WHEELS for UKRAINE to provide 4-wheel-drive vehicles to be able to transport warm clothes and medical supplies in the freezing winter months.
One vehicle has been purchased and the aim is to raise £20,000 to buy 4 or 5 more vehicles and drive them to Poland and then into Ukraine.

Following country-wide Walking Football initiative to raise funds for this charity, we held a penalty shoot-out competition amongst our members.
